Australia’s buildings are exposed to some of the toughest conditions—from extreme heat and cold to dust, rain, wind, and hail. That’s why COLORBOND® steel is rigorously tested at outdoor sites across Australia, as well as through accelerated laboratory testing. These assessments include corrosion and durability testing, application testing to ensure compatibility with a wide range of building products, and long-term outdoor exposure testing to prove its performance in real-world conditions.

Fire Performance

Roofing, walling, gutters, and downpipes made from COLORBOND® steel can be used in bushfire-prone areas as part of a compliant system, including in the highest risk classification, BAL-FZ (Bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone), as defined in AS 3959:2018. In BAL-FZ, there is an extremely high risk of ember attack, ignition from windborne debris, and direct exposure to extreme radiant heat and flames from the fire front.
